A new study published in the Brazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research aimed to analyze the acute responses of bradykinin insulin and glycaemia to exercise performed above and below lactate threshold LT in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus T2D . In this randomized trial 11 patients with T2D underwent three experimental sessions 72 hours apart which were 20 mins of exercise performed at 120 of LT 120 LT 20 mins of exercise performed at 80 of LT 80 LT and a 20 mins of control session. It was observed that both the exercise sessions rendered a parallel decrease in glucose levels during exercise with a greater decrease being observed for 120 LT. Glucose decreased to 22.7 mg dL at the 45 mins post exercise recovery period for 80 LT whereas its value was reduced to 31.2 mg dL for 120 LT. While insulin decreased at post exercise for 80 LT and control. On the other hand bradykinin increased at 45 mins post exercise only for 80 LT but was unrelated to the decrease in glucose. Therefore it was concluded that exercise performed above and below LT reduced glycaemia independent of insulin but exercise above LT was more effective in individuals with T2D. Furthermore it was stated that these changes were unrelated to the increase in circulating bradykinin.
